Dad's BBQ
Eldorado
1238 US Highway 45N

Every time I visit Southern Illinois I absolutely must get some grub at Dad's BBQ in Eldorado.  This is by no means a dress up, fine dinning establishment.  In fact, you don't even have to change out of your work clothes no matter the work you do.

All heads will turn as you walk in....not many out-of-towners around these parts.  Go ahead and order anything off the menu; it's all wonderful.  Dad's BBQ is simple no frills BBQ.  If you don't feel like getting out of the car to get your BBQ on, no worries, Dad's has a drive through window.  Really,  they cut a hole in the side of the building.  Don't forget to ring the door bell below the window to but your order in.

Don't forget to ask what pies they have on order....most are made fresh daily and they will put your grandma's to shame.

Cardinal Restaurant
Norris City

108 E Wabash St. (next to Wonder Market)

This hole in the wall joint is crazy popular with the senior crowd in this tiny town (pop. under 900).  During lunch, the Cardinal serves a wholesome, home cooked meal.  Don't expect lots of options on the menu.  You can get a selection of basic short order items buy why bother when you can eat fresh catfish or the best fried chicken ever (really ever).  All the specials come with your choice of veggies and a kind southern smile.  I always wash it down with ice tea (this is sweet ice tea country) and good conversation.

Last time I was in Norris City, I had heard that the Cardinal had amazing Raisin Pie.  I drove into town to pick one up....can't miss out on an amazing Raisin Pie, right.  They staff gave me my pie (whole pie $9) in a nice glass pie dish.  They asked me to ' go ahead and drop that pie dish back when ya'll er done'.  I of course dropped it back by the next week.  Thumbs up on the pie as well.
